The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SCCI) has released it’s long-awaited report on what did (and did not) happen in Benghazi on September 11, 2012 and what the Obama Administration said (and didn’t say) about it. The attacks led to the death of four Americans including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens.

The entire report is 85 pages long with about half of that devoted to appendices and to an “Additional Views” section by committee members. The SCCI is made up of 15 members; eight Democrats and seven Republicans. Continue reading

Middle East Violence: Coming Clean Take 2

BY MICHAEL S. JOHNSON

“You hate to think that the President would purposely mislead the American people, but it sure looks like it to me.” — House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon 9/21/2012

Let’s give the President the benefit of the doubt for now on whether he is coming clean on events in the Middle East that led to the death of our Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and three others. But Chairman McKeon should hold that thought.

We should focus first on UN Ambassador Susan Rice, who on Sunday, September 16th, went on a national media bender to deliver three messages: One, the violent protests in Libya were spontaneous. Two, the protests were caused by the release of an American video that insulted the Prophet Mohammed. Three, the two former Navy Seals who were killed in Libya were part of a security detail protecting the Ambassador to that country. Continue reading

Goodnight Irene

BY RICH GALEN

Just went through a 5.9 earthquake. We who live along the Potomac River are on flood watch. The Libyans can’t find Moammar Gaddhafi and, more importantly, don’t have any idea how to run the country even if they do. And, Hurricane Irene is taking dead aim at the Eastern coast of the United States.

I tweeted yesterday: Alexandria VA: Earthquake, Potomac flooding, now a hurricane? Not going to the Safeway for milk & bread. I’m looking for Mezuzahs.

An Unpredictable Region

No one in the Obama Administration was hanging a “Mission Accomplished” sign in front of the White House yesterday as it became obvious that the Libyan rebels had all but taken complete control of the country.

But, this isn’t a game of “capture the flag.” The rebels now have control of nearly all the land area of Libya, but it is not at all clear they control the sewer systems, the electricity production facilities, or a police force.

There has been so much going on this week, it’s almost impossible to make sense of it all in just one column.

First of all the is the ongoing non-war in Libya. It is a non-war in which country appears to want to take control.

Seeing Through Lybian Fog

I need someone to explain to me what in the world we are doing bombing convoys in Libya.

On the very first day of the anti-Gaddhafi attacks we launched a reported 110 Tomahawk missiles into Libya at a cost of about $600,000 per. The very first day of President Barack Obama’s very first war cost $66 million not including the cost of fuel, manpower, tax, title and dealer prep.

War In Lybia: What’s In A Name

By Tony Blankley

Reprinted from The Washington Times

Amidst all the confusion over our new little war in Libya , one thing is clear: Notwithstanding the bravery and professionalism of our troops in naming it Operation Odyssey Dawn, the Pentagon has invoked a haunting specter. The war’s namesake  Homer’s epic poem “The Odyssey”  is the tale of the hero, Odysseus, taking 10 years to get home from the Trojan War  which itself took 10 years to fight.

Lybia, Gadhafi and US

You have to hand it to Moammar Gadhafi. When many leaders of Islamic and/or Arabic nations are are struggling to find a way to calm down protesters by offering to do things like sitting down and talking with the opposition, he sends his son out to declare, according to NBC News, that the Gadhafi regime will “fight until the last man, the last woman, the last bullet” to keep itself in power.
